Remembering violinist Michael Ward. Michael, paired with saxophonist, Kyle Turner, Sr., performed in several Women in Jazz Concert Series from 2016 - 2019, and 2021 - 2022.

Michael was one of the few instrumental musicians who have chosen to play jazz on violin, and he played it very well with his smooth deliverance and stage presence. We will miss Michael Ward. He was truly a great entertainer, family man, and friend! Sincerely, Women in Jazz Board of Directors.

Remembering Dr. Jessica Gilliam-Valls. Uniquely talented upright bassist, Jessica performed in the Austin Women in Jazz ensemble on multiple occasions since 2022 through April 2025. We will miss Jessica. She was a bright light during each stage performance. Sincerely, Women in Jazz Board of Directors. Read more.

Remembering the Legacy of Dr. James Polk. You will always be in our hearts and minds. Thank you for sharing your treasured talent, love, and wonderful personality with us for 30 years. Sincerely, the Women in Jazz Board of Directors

I know I’m no glamour girl, and it’s not easy for me to get up in front of a crowd of people. It used to bother me a lot, but now I’ve got it figured out that God gave me this talent to use, so I just stand there and sing". - Ella Fitzgerald
